Ponnu Uruki Viduthal

 

  1. This is a small ceremony in which close members of the bride and the grooms family attend . It is preparation for the making of Thirumangalyam
  2. The twin functions (Pandakkal and Ponnu urukku)usually take place on the same day and time.
  3.  On this day the preparations for the thirumangalam will be initiated. A goldsmith is usually invited to melts the gold at an auspicious time.
  4.  The Sisters of the groom usually offer the gold for the thirumangalam. As with tradition , She will receive some surals at the time of marriage as a custom for what she has done for her brother 
  5.  In olden days, the goldsmith used to come to the house and commence the proceedings 
  6. As times have changed it is common for some go to the jewellery shop and order for the thirumangalam.
  7. If the goldsmith comes, he should be offered dakshina.(beetal leavea,pakku, banana with some money)
  8. It’s a brief function followed by lunch.
  9. From the groom side they should gift the thirumangalam, thirumangalam chain and a wedding ring for the bride.

Nalungu

  1. The Groom is invited to sit facing the East and the bride facing the west. 2. They will start the proceedings by rolling to and fro a beautiful ball made of Flowers and after some time with a silver coconut . This is a ritual to make the newly weds comfortable and familiar to one another and also adds a lot of fun and frolic to the occasion .    3. The bride sprinkles rose water on her husband and smears sandal and Kumkum on right foot of the groom with devotion and reverence . The bride is expected to stand and perform these rituals    4. Pillai Mattruthal

Pillai Matrudal and other rituals    In a   Thamboolam place a silk cloth (red or yellow).   A small statue of Lord Krishna   in a crawling position should be placed alongside the cloth.        The immediate family members of the bride and the groom place some personal jewels on the Thamboolam        This thamboolam will be exchanged by the bride and groom thrice. The newly wed is made to hold a handful of raw rice with a raw banana. The kappu and the raw banana are cut by an elderly member or the priest. After this ritual the couple is allowed to go out.        The newly weds are   blessed by all.        A big vessel filled with water should   be ready.   A knife and a ring are placed inside the water .
